Jewelry from severed doll body parts

POSTED BY admin, June 20, 2005 – 2:24 pm | PERMALINK

Necklaces, rings, bracelets, and brooches made from doll body parts. I’m partial to the chokers comprised of breasts in varied skin tones, and the and Barbie-ass armbands.

Violet Blue’s Teledildonics show-‘n’-tell photoblogged

POSTED BY admin, June 2, 2005 – 2:09 pm | PERMALINK

Last night at Dorkbot SF, Violet Blue gave a wonderful presentation on the current state of teledildonics: the science of manipulating sex toys through the Internet. Immediately following the conclusion of her speech, Violet proceeded to manipulate a Thrillhammer in New York’s Museum of Sex. But the attempt was marred by technical difficulties ranging from slow camera updates to not having the cursed thing plugged in. This was perhaps the first time in history that a room-full of people had managed to frustrate a woman 3000 miles away. In the end, however, Net Michelle did manage to get her rocks off as Violet piloted her to orgasm. The thrust of the experiment basically proved that teledildonics has made some major progress, but is also a long way from being a viable form of sexual gratification. I’ve posted my pictures form the event on my site and included a somewhat more detailed account in my blog. Enjoy!

Transparent Tape Sculpture

POSTED BY admin, May 27, 2005 – 8:13 pm | PERMALINK

Multimediatrix Violet Blue points us to the alluring work of Helen, a 21-year-old artist in Surrey, England who is seeking “patrons” to buy her art and/or pay for her tuition at Leeds College of Art and Design this year.

The interesting feature of this model is in the material used – it is an entirely solid piece, made using nothing but Sellotape. As it stands at the moment I estimate about 100 rolls have been used in the production, with it weighing well over 5kg.

I have been lucky enough to have been supported by the company Sellotape, and most of my materials have been supplied by them. I have also been featured in numerous Surrey newspapers in a plea for more tape and coverage, which was successful in gaining me about 40 extra rolls.

BDSM Dolls

BB pal Violet Blue point us to this Fleshbot post:

Gamisanjp Bond B1Considering the Japanese genius for miniaturization (not to mention a proclivity for hot sex doll action), these tableaus starring two figurines in some incredibly detailed bondage fetish attire shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Let’s hope some enterprising domestic toy company picks up on the idea soon—we’d totally love to see Barbie in one of those black enamel catsuit and matching gas mask combinations.

Xeni Tech on NPR: SRL’s robotic mayhem

POSTED BY admin, April 21, 2005 – 7:00 am | PERMALINK

For today’s edition of the NPR program “Day to Day,” I report from the recent live performance in Los Angeles by Survival Research Laboratories, the granddaddy of all robot/machine performance groups.

Before there were robot wars, before there were Monster Garages, there was SRL. Founded 25 years ago by Mark Pauline in San Francisco and comprised of an evolving cast of machines (and their human operators), SRL produced “ritualized interactions between machines, robots, and special effects devices.” Mostly, though, it just sounds and feels like the end of the world.

For Day to Day, I went to the group’s recent LA extravaganza and spoke with Mark Pauline (being interviewed, above), technicians Violet Blue and Karen Marcelo (a former Boing Boing guestblogger), and audience members. Attendee Michael Perry of Los Angeles described it best when he said “It’s like a giant postapocalyptic monster truck rally, without the trucks.”

Technical note: SRL shows are really, really loud, and full of smoke and sparks and machines that shoot blasts of air strong enough to kill a person. I had a hard time gathering sound, because my poor little minidisc recorder kept triggering a built-in limiter any time an Extremely Loud Thing happened (which was, oh, every 0.5 seconds). It worked out in the end, as you’ll hear in the NPR piece. But for all you future SRL podcasters — or anyone trying to record a war, because they sound the same — take a good look at your device in advance, RTFM, use the right kind of mic, and make sure you have manual control over any limiter function so your explosions aren’t muffled.

The crowd was an interesting bunch of bipedsand others. This is my favorite, and here’s another, because Bruce Sterling rules.

Here are snapshots I shot with my Treo, and here’s a grainy little Treo video I shot of Violet Blue operating a gigantic lethal machine: Link (3G2 format). There are many more photos (plus video) at SRL: Link. (Photos in this post all courtesty of Scott Beale)

Purses: the better to kick your ass with

POSTED BY admin, April 13, 2005 – 12:05 am | PERMALINK

Prada’s for pussies. These handbags double as a convenient tool for ladies who like to deliver head traumas on the go. Available in white and black leather, but I’d recommend the latter — those pesky bloodstains can be tough to remove.
Besides, what other purse boutique offers this online disclaimer?

Many states allow you to own suspected items but not carry them. Suspected items are not to be used as weapons or to cause bodily harm or damage to personal property in any way. It is YOUR responsibility to know the law before you order.

Lego Abu Ghraib

POSTED BY admin, February 7, 2005 – 11:38 pm | PERMALINK

Sex educator Violet Blue (not the reactionary porn star, but the hot chick who blows shit up with SRL) tells Boing Boing of an odd discovery in the room of a friend’s child.

He’s just beginning his teens, but I’ve been house sitting long enough to watch him go from Harry Potter toys to Lego Mindstorms and Playstation 2. So on Saturday night when I arrived to the empty house, I got a beer and went into his bedroom to check out his toys. There were immediate telltale signs of “young man” everywhere… but there were some Legos left around on his toy chest. I looked once and was on my way out, but then noticed the configuration of the Lego assembly. It was a compound. And in the back, was a child’s version of Abu Ghraib. Stunned, I took photos. Front. Inside. Detail. Compound.
